National Hot Dog Month - Do you love hot dogs? Everyone loves hot dogs and July is national hot dog month so you know what that means it is your job to eat as many of those yummy hot dogs as you can! July 1st - The Battle of Gettysburg - The turning point of the civil war, the bloody battle was fought in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania the battle lasted for three very long days and over 50,000 men lost their lives. However it was not only a turning point for the war it was a steeping stone for President Abraham Lincolns' most famous address. July 2nd - Amelia Earhart Disappeared - Amelia and her navigator, Fredrick Noonan, where attempting to fly around the world when they disappeared on July 2, 1937 somewhere over the Pacific Ocean between Lae, New Guinea and the Howard Islands. Amelia was one of the bravest woman in American history.
July 3rd - Idaho Joins the Union - July 3, 1890 was a great day for Idaho they became the 43rd state to join the union. You are sure to find some really interesting things about Idaho's history here!
July 4th - Independence Day - On July 4, 1776 the second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. July 5th - First Mammal Cloned - A lamb named Dolly was the first animal to be successfully cloned on July 5, 1996. Dolly was born at the Roslin Institute in Scotland.
July 6th - John Paul Jones Birthday - John was born on July 6, 1747 he was an American hero during the Revolution War. His famous quote came from a question asked about if he was ready to surrender. He replied "I have not yet begun to fight."
July 7th - The Building of the Hoover Dam Began - On July 7, 1930 the building began it was finished in 1936 the dam is considered one of the nations seven modern wonders. July 9th - The 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution was Ratified - The amendment that is known as the "Reconstruction Amendment," forbids any state in the union to provide any person equal protection by the laws. July 10th - The Scopes Trial Begins - John T. Scopes was on trial for "teaching evolution." The trial started on July 10, 1925 and on May 1925 he was found guilty.

July 13th - The Northwest Ordinance Enacted - On July 13, 1787 this ordinance which was actually a combination of three ordinances was enacted. It created the Northwest Territory, established a government for the territory and provided a process for states to be admitted into the Union. To learn more check out this website.
July 14th - Gerald Ford's Birthday - The 38th president was born on July 14, 1913.
July 16th - The Atomic Bomb was Successful Tested - On July 16, 1945 in Alamogordo, New Mexico, the first atomic bomb was successful tested. Robert J. Oppenheimer, is known as the "father of the atomic bomb." To learn more about the atomic bomb and President Harry Truman's decision to drop it on two cities in Japan.
July 16th - Washington D.C. Becomes the New Capital - On July 16, 1790 Congress decided Washington D.C. would become the new capital. Philadelphia had served as the nations capital for the prior ten years. President George Washington announced the location of the new capital on January 24, 1791.
July 17th - The Spanish Civil War - The Spanish Civil war started on July 17, 1936. Many believe it was the start of World war II.
July 19th - The Seneca Falls Convention - The Seneca Falls Convention took place on July 19, 1848 in Seneca Falls, New York. The convention was the first women's rights convention. It was organized by Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and several other women. The convention was the start of the Women's Suffrage Movement. This a monumental event in Women's History. July 20th - First Man on the Moon - On July 20, 1969, astronaut Neil Armstrong was the first man to stand on the moon. The was a huge step for the United States space program and the world. He stepped out of lunar landing modual and stepped on to the moon. To learn more check out this website.
July 21st - Battle of Bull Run - The first major battle of the American Civil War is the Battle of Bull Run. The battle took place on July 21, 1861 between Confederate and Union troops.
July 24th - The Machu Picchu is Discovered - On July 24, 1911, the ancient lost city of the Inca's was discovered. It is known as the Machu Picchu. An American historian was lead to the "lost city" by an 11 year old boy. To learn more check out this website.

July 26th - New York Becomes a State - On July 26, 1788 New York state was admitted to the union as the 11th state.
July 27th - Impeachment of President Richard Nixon Begins - The House of Representatives made the formal statement requesting that President Richard Nixon be impeached due to his illegal activities involving the Watergate Scandal. On July 27, 1974 the impeachment process began. Nixon was relieved of his presidential duties on September 8, 1974 and Gerald Ford became the President of the United States as Nixon's successor.
July 30th - Henry Ford's Birthday - The father of the American assembly line and inventor of the automobile was born on July 30, 1863.
July 31st - The First U.S. Patent is Issued - On July 31, 1790 a man named Samuel Hopkins was issued the first patent by George Washington. He patent covered the process of making potash.
