Graphing Lesson Plans
- A Bar
of Many Colors- Students use colored candies to collect data, construct
double bar graphs, and find averages.
- All About
Me Graphing- Students learn about collecting and displaying data by
making graphs about classmates' characteristics.
- Anyone
for Lunch?- The student will use statistical methods to record and
make inferences about real-world situations using graphs.
- Apple
Graph - To graph the results of apple-tasting after we have read a
counting story about apples.
- Apple
Eaters- This is an entertaining, cooperative learning lesson where
students have the opportunity to taste a variety of apples and to graph
which apple is the most favorite. Students practice their speaking skills
by explaining the results of the group graph.
- Are You
Coordinated?- Students learn how to locate coordinate points on a
grid. They create a graph during the lesson and identify the coordinate
points.
- C is for
Cookie-A MEAN-ingful Graphing Activity- Students work in groups to
dissect a variety of brands of chocolate chip cookies and calculate the
mean for each brand. Students create their own bar graphs, pictographs,
and line graphs to represent information.
- Candy Fractions-
Candy Fractions is quite the treat for Fraction Fridays. Families donate
bags of seasonal treats that the class estimates, counts, sorts on tree
diagrams, names, and then graphs. Oh yeah, then they get to eat the treats!
- Collecting
and Analyzing Data - This project requires students to conduct a statistical
investigation to determine some typical characteristics of students in
their class.
- Common
Sense Cookie Shop- Children count and add money to shop for cookies.
The lesson involves role-play, graphing results and cooperative learning.
- Coordinate
Graphs with y-intercept - Students will graph lines using the y-intercept
formula.
- Creating
a Bar Graph - he learner will understand and use graphs and data analysis
integration with school wide focus.
- Data
and Graphing - Read survey chart, write tally marks on a chart to represent
an answer, answer questions using tally marks on the chart.
- Data
Management and Analysis- Elementary Level Ideas by Lillian Forsythe,
Grade One Teacher.
- Displaying
Data - Students will display data using bar graphs, histograms and
line graphs.
- Doctor,
Doctor, Give Me the News, I've Got a Bad Case of Loving Math- Tired
of hearing, When are we ever going to use this again? Students will use
their knowledge of graphing inequalities to solve this real world problem.
- Dog
or Cat? - The students will be able to: complete a simple bar graph
determine the likelihood of a certain outcome give examples of things
that are possible/impossible.
- Drawing
Bugs Game- Students explore probability by predicting the likelihood
of rolling any one number on a fair die, graphing data, and analyzing
the results of playing a drawing game.
- Easy Estimating-Easy
Estimating introduces children to the fun of estimating and graphing while
incorporating the concepts of less, more, and equal.
- Exploring
Parabolas - The graph is a parabola Vertex of a parabola shifts of
the parabola.
- Flavorful
Graphing- This activity is a fun extension to collecting, graphing,
and analyzing data. Students work for a fictional advertising company
and are looking to find what customers will like in new products.
- Fractions
& Line Graphs - Understanding fractions, decimals, percent, line graph.
- Game Day
Graphing- Students produce data tables and bar graphs from given sets
of information and then analyze and explain the data displays.
- Gathering
and Using Data - The students will be able to gather data using a
survey, organize and compile that data into both a tally chart and a frequency
table, and use that information to make a bar graph and/or a circle graph.
- Graph It-
Students use real life experiences (school Open House) to learn graphing
skills and use technology for creating tables and graphs.
- Graphs
Use Art and Math Lesson Plan- To develop and promote an awareness
of the uses of art materials and concepts in the creation of visual information
charts and graphs.
- Graphing
and Probability - Students will graph their data on a bar graph. Students
will use the data to figure ratios and determine probability.
- Graphing
Equations - Students will be able to graph linear equations using
the x and y intercepts.
- Graphing
Relationships - The activities in this chapter teach students the
basic techniques of assembling coordinate graphs.
- Graphing
Valentine Candies- The student will learn to organize and display
information in bar graph form using appropriate labels.
- Graphing
With Candy- The purpose of this lesson is to gather information and
interpret the results using a tally chart, a table, and a bar graph.
- Grid (Graph) Paper: Small

Work Area
- Happy
Birthday Class- Birthdays are important events in children's lives.
This lesson integrates graphing and the use of calendars with their special
days. This lesson plan may be used individually or with the unit All About
Me. This is lesson plan five of eight included in the unit.
- Let's
Graph It!- Students calculate the conversion factor between cm and
inches by graphing the height of each student in cm and inches and finding
the slope of the line.
- M
& M Graphs- Graphing by coloring amount of M and M's Telling me
what color they have the least of and the color they have the most of.
- M&M
- Graphing Mean, Median, Mode - Students will be able to graph their
M&M's by different attributes.
- Monster
Graph Activity- Monsters are considered scary creatures, but this
lesson will take the fear out of graphing. Student creates and draws conclusions
from data found in a Monster graph.
- Now
that's using your head!- A fun basic graphing lab, that examines
if your head size is related to how high you can jump.
- Pizza Probability-
Pizza Probability allows students to use graphing software in displaying
the results of their gathered statistical data to make predictable decisions
in suggesting the varieties of pizza to sell at a community fundraiser.
- Plotting
Ordered Pairs 1- This lesson serves as an introduction to graphing.
Students identify the origin and use the x- and y-axes to plot positive
ordered pairs in the coordinate system.
- Positives and Negatives
on the Number Line- Different kinds of numbers are used to stand for
different things. There are positive numbers and there are negative numbers.
Positive numbers are more than zero and negative numbers are less than
zero.
- Reading
and Making Graphs - The students will be able to identify parts of
a bar graph, read a bar graph, and create their own bar graph.
- Sloping
and Intersecting a Linear Function- This lesson discusses graphing,
slope, x-intercept and y-intercept.
- Solving
Systems of Equations Graphically- Students solve a system of equations
by graphing.
- Survey
Says - Understanding the process of data management.
- Thanksgiving
Food Drive - Student should be able to identify the different types
of graphs and charts presented.
- Treasure
Map Graph - Students learn how to plot coordinates on a geoboard to
find hidden figures.
- Using
Charts and Graphs - In this lesson students will become familiar with
the use of tables, bar graphs, picture graphs, and flow charts.
