Lesson Plan Title : Power Point Spelling
Age Range: Grade 9 through Grade 12 (High School Level)
Overview and Purpose : The following spelling lesson can be as straight-forward or silly as you want to make it. Be creative! The more interesting the game, the more engaged your students will be.
Objective: The student will be able to correctly identify which word in a group of four is spelled correctly.
Resources:
Power Point slides - each with a list of four words spelled similarly but only one is correct
Two flyswatters
Activities:
Divide the class into two teams. Have one student from each team stand at a desk. Give them each a flyswatter and tell them that when they know which word is spelled correctly they should slap the desk. Put up a slide that lists one word that is spelled correctly and three others that have similar spellings but are misspelled. Ask the student who slapped the desk first to tell you which word is correct. If he is right, he earns one point for his team and two more players come up. If he is wrong, the other student has a chance to answer. If he is wrong also, no points are awarded and two more players come up.
Closure:
Students can create the slides for this game. They can work individually or in pairs to create sets of words they think will fool their classmates.
