Lesson Plan Title : Word Seek

Age Range: Grade 3 through Grade 5 (Elementary Level)

Overview and Purpose : Puzzles, un-puzzled� In this activity, students will make a puzzle with their spelling words for their classmates to decipher.

Objective: The student will be able to

- Create a word search puzzle using his spelling words.

- Find the spelling words in a word search puzzle created by a classmate.

Resources:

Paper with a grid on it big enough to create a word search

Activities:

Pass a piece of paper with a grid on it out to each student. Have them write their spelling words anywhere on the grid. (Remind them they can write them diagonally or backward.) Have them fill in the rest of the blanks with random letters. Encourage them to put in several words that are spelled correctly except that they have one or two letters wrong.

Have the students exchange papers and complete the word searches. The students can check each other's work.

Closure:

Students can continue this assignment at home by creating another word search and asking a member of their family to complete it.
