Lesson Plan Title : Point of View

Age Range: Grade 3 through Grade 5 (Elementary Level)

Overview and Purpose : This lesson will challenge students to look at a story from multiple points of view and compare the differences.

Objective: The student will be able to compare two similar stories written from two different points of view.

Resources:

2 copies of the story of the three little pigs - one told from the point of view of the pigs and one from the point of view of the wolf (The True Story of the Three Little Pigs).

Teacher created worksheet

Activities:

Discuss point of view with your students. Read both versions of the story as a class. Have the students point out two or three instances where the stories are different. Talk about how important it is to understand the idea of point of view in a story.

Have students work in pairs or trios to complete the worksheet. They should list events in the story and compare the points of view. Come back together as a class and discuss the worksheets. Have students vote on whose point of view they think is accurate.

The wolf tries to blow down the door. The wolf is trying to break in. The wolf has a cold and is sneezing. I think the wolf didn't have a cold.

Closure:

You can extend this lesson by choosing students to play the part of each character in the story. Choose a student to be a news reporter and have him interview each character about the events that happened. Ask the class ahead of time to write down questions they would like the reporter to ask.
