Lesson Plan Title : Textured Alphabet

Age Range: Kindergarten through Grade 2 (Elementary Level)

Overview and Purpose : Using bubble wrap for the letter 'b' or feathers for the letter 'f' will help all students, especially visual and tactile learners become familiar with the alphabet.

Objective: The student will be able to add items that start with the correct sound to a cut out of that letter.

Resources:

Worksheets with the letter being studied copied in bubble letters

Several items that start with that letter

Activities:

Give each student a worksheet that has the letter that is being studied copied on it. Have them make a book for the letters. They should cut out the letter and glue it in the book. Then they should glue items on it that start with that letter. Examples can include rope for the letter r, cotton for the letter c, and pennies for the letter p.

Closure:

This activity can also be done with letters that are hung on the wall. More advanced students can write words that start with that letter on the correct page in their book. You can also create a slideshow, by taking a picture of each letter followed by two or three items that start with that letter. Set the slideshow as the screensaver on the class computer.
