Lesson Plan Title : Describing Words: An Introduction to Adjectives
Age Range: Kindergarten through Grade 2 (Elementary Level)
Overview and Purpose : Your students' memory and creativity will be tested as they try not to break the chain of adjectives in the following lesson.
Objective: The student will be able to add to a list of adjectives and then repeat the list to the class.
Resources:
Pictures of nouns (preferably ones with a lot of details on them)
Activities:
Hold up a card with a picture of a noun on it. Ask the first student to tell you what the picture is (i.e. ball). Ask the next student to tell you one word that describes the item and then name the item (blue ball). The next student then names the previous adjective and adds his own (small, blue ball). Continue the game until a student makes a mistake in listing the adjectives or cannot think of a new one. The student can either be out or you can just play for fun. Either way, start the game over with a new picture when someone makes a mistake.
Closure:
For homework, have students choose five items that they see around the house. Under each item, have them list three or four adjectives. To help stretch their vocabulary, allow each adjective to be used only once. Have the students share their lists the next day.
