Lesson Plan Title : Jars of Clay

Age Range: Grade 3 through grade 5 (Elementary)

Overview and Purpose: Students make jars that resemble the jars used in the Hanukkah story.

Objective: The student will be able to make a jar of clay.

Sculpting tools

Pictures of jars of clay similar to those in the Hanukkah story

Kiln-optional

Activities:

Show your students the pictures of the jars of clay from the Hanukkah story. Ask them to describe what they look like. Give them the clay and sculpting tools and have them try to make jars that look similar to the ones in the pictures.

Wrap Up:

This activity can also be completed with model magic, and then the students can color their jars after they have dried.
