Lesson Plan Title : Wrapping Paper Patterns

Age Range: Grade 3 through grade 5 (Elementary)

Overview and Purpose: This activity allows students to create art using the patterns found on Christmas wrapping paper.

Objective: The student will be able to create a piece of art using the patterns found on Christmas wrapping paper.

Resources:

Various sheets of Christmas wrapping paper that have repeating patterns on them

Blank paper

Scissors

Glue or tape

Activities:

Have students create a collage of wrapping paper patterns. Encourage them to be creative and explore symmetry, repeating patterns, kaleidoscope effects, etc. Create frames out of painted cardboard or construction paper and hang the collages up in the classroom.

Wrap Up:

Instead of making individual collages, students could work together to make a class mural. They could use the wrapping paper to make a winter scene.
