Overview and Purpose: Students will examine the way Christmas has changed over the years in America. They will create a timeline showing when major changes and additions have happened in our history.

Have your students' research different traditions about Christmas. They can create a timeline showing when different ones started or changed. Some examples of changes would be: switching from candles to electric lights and the evolution of what Santa looks like over the years.
Wrap Up:
Traditions are an important part of any culture and family. Students can write journal entries for homework about which holiday traditions they will continue (or start) when they have a family of their own.
